British People’s Party

 

The most prominent pacifist movement in Britain, led by the future DUKE OF BEDFORD who tried to broker a peace deal with Germany

British Union of Fascists

 

The most important Fascist party in Britain, founded in 1932 by SIR OSWALD MOSLEY, a former Labour Government minister. WILLIAM JOYCE (who was dismissed in 1937) was a prominent member. For a time, the Womens’ Units were run by LADY MAKGILL, Donald’s wife.

British Fascisti

 

Britain’s first Fascist Party, founded in 1923. WILLIAM JOYCE was a member.

Economic League

 

Effectively MI5’s ‘industrial arm’. Between the wars, it was run by JOHN BAKER WHITE, a founding member of the British Fascisti.

Imperial Fascist League

 

A breakaway movement from the British Fascisti, headed by ARNOLD SPENCER LEESE.

Industrial Intelligence Bureau

 

A private intelligence network run by Sir GEORGE MAKGILL prior to his death in 1926. Maxwell Knight and John Baker White were among its agents

Jahnke Buro

 

A private Intelligence operation in Berlin run by KURT JAHNKE. In 1950, an informant known as ‘DICTIONARY’ claimed that TYLER KENT ‘supplied material regularly from 1938 to 1940’.

January Club

 

An up-market branch of the BRITISH UNION OF FASCISTS run by DONALD MAKGILL, George’s son.

The Link

 

A pro-German group founded by ADMIRAL BARRY DOMVILE, a former Director of Naval Intelligence.

MI5

 

The ‘unofficial’ publicly-funded State Security Service. It had a minimal presence during the inter-war years but its activities were supplemented by the private sector, including the ECONOMIC LEAGUE.

National Socialist League

 

Founded by WILLIAM JOYCE in 1937 after his dismissal from the BUF.

New Party

 

SIR OSWALD MOSLEY’s ‘centre party’, founded in 1931. The forerunner of the BRITISH UNION OF FASCISTS.

Nordic League

 

A secret, anti-Jewish group in which WILLIAM JOYCE and CAPTAIN RAMSAY were prominent members.

OMS (Organisation for Maintenance of Supplies)

 

A strike-breaking operation set up to counter the General Strike in 1926. Sir GEORGE MAKGILL was involved.

The Right Club

 

Secret anti-Jewish club founded in 1939 by CAPTAIN RAMSAY, the Conservative MP for Peebles.

Special Branch

 

The official State Security Service.
