Oswald Allen Harker (1886-1968)Oswald Allen Harker (1886-1968)

Brigadier 'Jasper' Harker was a senior MI5 officer who served as Director-General following the dismissal of Vernon Kell in June 1940 and prior to the appointment of Sir David Petrie in April 1941. He is often confused with his younger brother, Arthur William Allen Harker, who is in the Army Lists as a Brigadier whereas Jasper's own rank is evidently only a courtesy title.

A veteran of the British Fascisti (like Maxwell Knight), Hirst had been one of Maxwell Knight's undercover agents known as 'Special Source' since 1936. Possibly, he was considered 'Special' because of his membership of several Right-Wing groups including the British Union of Fascists, the Imperial Fascist League. The Link and Captain Ramsay's Right Club. His German-born wife, Gertrude, was also involved in some of his activities.
